Join us for an intimate founder dinner with Swapnil Shinde, CEO and Co-founder of Zeni, a 3x entrepreneur with 2x exits and deep expertise in scaling AI-native products.
Swapnil founded Zeni in 2019 to solve a critical bottleneck in startup operations: accounting and financial visibility. Today, Zeni serves founders across hundreds of companies with AI-powered bookkeeping that provides real-time control and automated insights. The platform has raised $47.5M and continues to expand globally with teams across the US, Canada, and India.
Before Zeni, Swapnil's track record speaks for itself. He co-founded Dhingana, a music streaming platform that was acquired by Rdio in 2014 after raising $8.5M from Lightspeed Ventures and Helion Ventures. He then founded Mezi, a human-assisted AI platform connecting shoppers with expert assistance, which was acquired by American Express in 2018.
Beyond his founder exits, Swapnil brings 21+ years of product and engineering leadership across Yahoo!, Symantec, and IBM Software Labs. He's also a General Partner at Twin Ventures, CEO Coach, and advisor/investor in 40+ startups—giving him a rare vantage point on what separates founders who scale from those who plateau.
In this dinner, Swapnil will share the patterns he's observed across his entrepreneurial journey: how product vision drives exit potential, the role of conviction in building and scaling teams, the strategic timing of pivots, and the operational leverage that AI brings to founder-operated businesses. This is a conversation rooted in lived experience—from startup zero to acquisition to building again.
Chatham House Rule: This dinner will be under Chatham House rule so founders can be fully open with each other, and learnings will be compiled with Chief. Learn more here.

Gut-level resonance is the most reliable predictor. Trust your instinct about whether you understand someone at a soul level.
Life goals alignment matters more than business alignment. If you're only aligned on KPIs, you'll fracture under pressure.
Acceptance beats convincing. You won't convert your co-founder to your worldview; you'll learn to live with disagreement and move forward anyway.
Daily alignment practice is non-negotiable. No matter how well you know each other, you need regular check-ins.
Emotions are real and legitimate. Stop treating them as weakness. Address them directly.
Everything multiplies with team size. Communication gets harder. Alignment becomes more fragile.
Executive selection should focus on life-goal alignment, not just skills. Rally around their journey, not just their job title.
Energy flows from the founder team. Misalignment at the top becomes systemic dysfunction within days.
Start with deep obsession with a problem. Not an idea. A problem that keeps you up at night.
Being ahead of the curve is expensive and lonely, but being late is terminal.
AI + human hybrid is often the answer. Pure automation doesn't work for high-touch, judgment-dependent work.
Resist initial market skepticism. If you're truly early, you'll face resistance. That's a signal you're ahead.
In-person events become more valuable as AI/digital noise increases. The scarcity premium on deep, in-person connection is rising.
Founder-centric design (not VC pitch, not transactional) creates trust. Pair introductions, shared meals, Chatham House rules—these remove pressure and enable honesty.
Algorithmic matching can help, but personal connection is irreplaceable. Use data to get the right people in the room; let humanity do the rest.
